In 1998, he was appointed as a board member of the UK Anti-Drugs Co-ordination Unit, advising on the development and implementation of the Government’s first UK drug strategy. He was also involved in developing the first wave of criminal justice interventions with HM Prisons and Probation.

Ray joined Change Grow Live (CGL) in 1994 and led the development of what is now the largest national provider of drug and alcohol treatment services in Europe. Ray is a BACP qualified integrative counsellor and completed his master’s in business administration (MBA) in 2005.

In 2008, Ray left CGL to provide workforce training and consultancy for leading health and social care provider organisations and NHS Trusts. Since 2011, Ray has been a visiting lecturer for the University of Brighton’s Criminology and Substance Misuse Interventions degree course.

He is a social entrepreneur and the former founder and Chief Executive of Emerging Futures CIC, an organisation that provides supported accommodation, recovery coaching, accreditation and a mid-point allegiance between social care providers and the communities in which they work.
